Our mission

Health is a right,
not a privilege.

Founded in 1999 by a coalition of community organizers and public health nurses, Social Medicine was built on a simple belief: every person deserves quality healthcare, regardless of insurance status, language, or income.

We operate as a federally qualified health center, which means our sliding-scale fees ensure no patient is ever turned away. We serve a patient population that speaks more than 22 languages. Our clinicians reflect the communities they serve.

94% of patients rate their care as excellent or very good in our annual satisfaction survey.

Patient voices

Stories from our community.

"

I came in without insurance and was terrified I would be turned away. They sat with me for over an hour. I have never felt so seen by a doctor's office in my life.

Maria T.

Patient since 2019, Oak Park clinic

"

My son has asthma and we used to go to the ER every few months. Since we started coming here, he hasn't had a single hospital visit. They actually have time for you.

James O.

Patient since 2021, Del Paso Heights clinic

"

The behavioral health team is embedded with the medical team. They treated my anxiety like it was as real as my blood pressure. That's not common.

Priya N.

Patient since 2022, Midtown clinic
